A beautiful Tui poem to covid

Recent times are bringing us closer than ever, although we’ve never been so physically restricted and isolated.

Whenever I leave the house for a walk, I rush home because I am so inspired. There is so much to write about!

I want people to know in this time. It’s okay if you don’t feel creative.  It’s okay if you feel more creative than ever.

It’s okay if you are still adjusting, or if you’re finally in a routine and feel like you could accomplish anything.

You don’t have to use this time to build a website or write a book.

It’s okay.

There’s a lot of pressure right now. A lot of unknowns, but ultimately, it will pass.

It won’t ever be how it was again, but maybe that’s good, too.

sing on the powerlines we built

years before all this

Before covid

was the word

 we utter daily, hush

There’s more birds

now, or maybe less distraction

The world feels

and the only

sound that seeps

through my window pane

 is their song

It’s so quiet

But I ran the streets

and there’s more

than ever

Biking, walking, rollerblading, playing with previously untouched soccer balls

Our lives feel

so full

No one can get in

or out

We’re forced to just be

 right here

with what and who we have

We’re a community

I leave 2 metres

between us

but these smiles bring us closer

than ever

Spot teddy bears

in windows

waiting for restless children

to search

and smile

Waiting for hopeless adults

to wonder

And in all this unknown

we get so much closer

to what really matters

It makes the world

feel fuller

and all we’re asked

to do is

show kindness

Create, nourish, connect, be alone

and that’s how

we save the world

It’s how we save lives

So I’ll rest in the fact

that maybe this beauty

only lasting one month

isn’t long enough
